Support Group Leader Appreciation Luncheon; In the Windjammer Room of the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites.
August 2, 2010
At this one of a kind event, the patient driven leaders of support groups will be honored for their natural leadership in the journey against Parkinson's disease. These leaders and their care partners both live with, and advocate for, better care for PD. It is the leaders like these that help move with progress of the disorder. This luncheon will recognize that, and give them a first look at achievements in treatment the medial community are currently working towards in research. Principle Investigators Dr. Robert Hutchman and Dr. Robert Shorr will be on hand to provide these exciting developments!
Research Advocacy Council Luncheon
July 14, 2010
Past and present research study participants were cordially invited to an honorary luncheon where they were identified and applauded for their participation in the movement towards better PD treatments. Guests were given the first look at the research pipeline, both globally and locally. The mission of this event was to raise awareness of the importance of participation in research. All the crucial medications Parkinson's patients function with (Sinemet, Requip, Azilect, and so forth), would not be available in the marketplace today if they didn't go through the clinical trials process. The importance of voluntary pioneers like these patients is unparalleled in advancing more effective PD treatments, with less side effects. At the gathering there were approximately 50 patients, their care partners and loved ones. Future generations thank you for your participation!

TEAM Parkinson/LA Marathon
March 20, 2010
Noteworthy: We (The Hutchman Center Team) raised over $5000 for Team Parkinson’s from this event.
Always exciting to have The Hutchman Center Team participate at the LA Marathon with Team Parkinson....some photos from Sat. March 20 5K race. Update from Team Parkinson...
We had a fabulous celebration at our dinner on Saturday evening and Sunday... morning’s marathon from Dodger Stadium to the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica was spectacular! And as of today we’ve raised at least $115,000 and more money is still coming in. Don’t forget that fundraising is all year long and this campaign continues until June 30th. Thank you so much to all who were there, physically and in spirit, and to all who donated toward our mission of finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

The Santa Maria Seminar 2010!
Within our organization, we have a circuit of Parkinson's disease support groups that we facilitate and set programming for every month. And over the next 6 months, we will be doing an informational seminar each month on a different, yet very important symptom we are raising awareness for. These seminars are animated, lively, informative and interesting. This month, we are covering the topic of Orthostatic Hypotension in PD, which is a great fall risk to patients. This month, the Santa Maria group, the Westlake group and the Ventura support groups have all seen the Orhtostatic hypotensionseminar. debriefing info from the OH meeting, but that next month's circuit of all the groups, we will be speaking about Hypomobility and freezing issues!
